Drug Eduction Guest Speaker

On Friday we had a guest speaker called Terry, who was a pharmacist come a talk to us about Drugs. He talked to us about medicine that can be prescribed or can be bought over the counter. These are some of the things I found out:

  • Never take someone elses medicine, especially if it is prescribed to them
  • Prescription drugs are more effective than drugs you can buy over the counter at a pharmacy
  • You must take the exact amount of medicine that is needed because too much can be bad for you and if you have less because it means you won’t get better
  • It is important to  take the right amount of doses told, even if you are feeling better
  • Always tell a  doctor if you have a side effect to a kind of drug
  • People can react differently to the same medicine
  • Always read the label of your medicine carefully for instructions always make sure you know what medicine you are taking because you could have a side effect or be allergic to a drug in it
  • Most things you need to know about the medicine will be on the packaging of your medicine
  • Make sure you tell a doctor if you are taking any medicine before you are givin a prescription
  • Even if a doctor tells you to take a medicine that you are allergic to, tell the doctor that you are allergic
  • Don’t take medicine is out of date because you don’t know what will happen to you if you take it
  • Some medicine can do the same things as others

What do you you think is the most important rule for taking medicine?

What is the medicine you use most often?

Narratives

Yersterday we did an activity where  you would start a narrative and then you would pass it to another person and they would continue the narrative and then pass it on to another person. this is mine:

Stranded in Italy

Georgia: One day there were 2 girls. Their names were Ivy and Thalia. Ivy had long black hair with blue eyes and Thalia had long wavy brown hair with hazel eyes. These 2 girls had gone out on a boat together when there boat capsized near the island of Capri in Italy. They finally swam to shore on a small island half way between Capri and Positano, but were not sure how to get help. They could see boats, but the boats were too far away to see them.

Person 2: Ivy said try to float on the water and let the tide bring us in. Thalia was having trouble, but she managed to float. Later that afternoon an idea came to Thalia “ Why don’t we swim over to Positano and stay there for there for the night

Person3: “Ok” said Ivy “But there are 2 problems, it’s dark and Positano is to far away. We can’t swim in the dark, we won’t be able to see. We could eventually get to Positano but it will be hard” In the morning they tried floating to shore.

Person 4: They started to float to shore. They had been floating or around half an hour when they realized that all they did was float around the island that they were stranded on. They had started to float towards Positano and had gotten around half way when a guy riding a goat said do you want a lift to Positano. They said yes and about another 2 hours later they were safely on the shore.

Term 4

This term the things that I am most looking forward to are:

  • The  grade 6 excursion, because it would be nice to do something with the 6s before we go to secondary school.
  • camp will be great to go on because there will be lots of fun activities to do. I have lots of nervous energy about camp, but cannot wait.
  • I am looking forward to swimming, because our survival day is always fun when we have to wear clothes in the pool.
  • I am competing in a italian poetry competition this year, so I can’t wait for that
  • I am looking forward to our chistmas concert at the end of the year
  • I am looking forward to having the grade 6 dinner with the teachers as well
  • I am looking forward to the last day of school because it means we will have a giant water fight while cleaning all the tubs.

If I were in Charge of the World

If I were in charge of the world I wound cancel world poverty, war and also the problems the world has with dirty water.

If I were in charge of the world there’d be clean water, education and fair rights for children and adults.

If I were in charge of the world

You wouldn’t have poverty

You wouldn’t have dirty water

You wouldn’t have unfair rights

Or war.

You wouldn’t even have to worry about the unfairness of politics.

If I were in charge of the world fair rights would be a vegetable.

All people would have the right of a good education.

And a person who sometimes forgot the rights of others

And sometimes forgot to be fair to others

Would still be allowed to be

In charge of the earth.

My work

In June I have been reading a book in class for my reading group called Parvana. It’s about a young girls fight to survive Afganistan. In maths I do a different class of maths with 5 other people from our class. We a making a murder mystery for the rest of the class (maths related of course)! We are also doing a sustainability unit for our inquiry. We have done natural disarsters, layers of the earth and it’s atmosphere and about global warming. My favourite thing I’ve done this term is making our own murder mystery.

Camp

The five and six class of St.As in 2012 got to go on a camp for three days and two nights. It took us 2 hours to get to the camp. We stopped at a river and had a snack before we continued traveling. We got to the camp at around 12:00 and settled into our cabins and had a snack. We then went on a giant slide for one and a half hours. We than had afternoon tea and then did Frisbee golf and map reading. We than had veggie soup, chicken, rice, veggies and chocolate mousse slice with ice-cream and topping. We went for a bush walk, had a hot chocolate and we went up to our cabins. I was in a cabin with Grace,Steph, Paige, Madeleine and Catherine. I was on one of the three top bunks.

In the morning we had pancakes, toast, bacon and eggs with some juice. We than had free time for an hour and we played cricket on the oval. We than split into 3 groups and than we did low ropes and the flying fox! My favourite thing we did was the flying fox out of those 2. We did each activity for one and a half hours and we had morning tea in the middle of the activities. We than had lunch. We had hamburgers and sausages and a freddo frog or a Carmelo koala. We than did trust and initiative games and archery and had afternoon tea in the middle of the two activities. I enjoyed archery the most. We than had free time.  For dinner we had lamb roast with veggies and apple crumble slice with ice-cream and topping. We watched a movie called “Auther’s Christmas”. We had a hot chocolate and then went to bed.

We were all really sad to leave today. We had a breakfast of pancakes, toast, eggs, bacon and baked beans with juice. We than has free time and headed up to hut building. We built this really cool hut that we could all fit inside. I had a lot of fun. We then packed our bags tidied our cabins and headed back to school. Mrs. D gave us giant lolly bags! We all had to agree that this was one of the best camps we’ve ever been on!

Snorkelling

Today we went snorkelling.

I saw a cat shark, four sting rays, fish and lots of other things!

My buddy was Paige. At the end we were all so hot because it was 38 degrees and we were in 5 milimeter wetsuits!

The instructors gave us lollies and we also got to play in the park and eat fish and chips!

I had a super fun day!

Whats your favourite sea creature? Why?
